BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Phosphorus trifluoride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula PF3. It is a colorless and odorless toxic gas at normal temperature and pressure. It is a colorless and transparent liquid in liquid state. It does not smoke much in the air and is quite stable. It reacts with hydrogen when heated. The reaction generates PH3, which can react with water to generate phosphorous acid and hydrogen fluoride. It can also be decomposed in alkali. Soluble in ethanol. Does not corrode glass except at high temperatures.

Purpose (USE)
1. Phosphorus trifluoride is often used as a reagent in organic synthesis and is widely used in chemical laboratories. It plays an important role in the generation of fluorinated hydrocarbons, the fluorination reaction of aromatic compounds, and the reaction of amines and acid anhydrides.
