Octafluorocyclobutane (C4F8/C318 )
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
- Octafluorocyclobutane (C4F8) is an organic compound also known as perfluorocyclobutane and halogenated hydrocarbon C318.
- Octafluorocyclobutane is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-flammable gas.
- It has high chemical and thermal stability.
- Octafluorocyclobutane has good electrical insulation properties and low surface tension.
- It is a greenhouse gas and one of the mandatory Ozone Depleting Substances.
- It has low greenhouse effect potential (GWP) value and zero ozone depletion index (ODP) value. It is a green and environmentally friendly special gas.

USE
- Octafluorocyclobutane is mainly used as a propellant and refrigerant in the food industry.
- Used in processes such as plasma etching and physical vapor deposition in semiconductor manufacturing processes, integrated circuit etchants.
- Octafluorocyclobutane is mainly used in gas discharge modules of high-precision electronic equipment as a gas insulator, coolant and medium.
- Octafluorocyclobutane can also be used in gas fire extinguishing systems, photolithography machines and LCD manufacturing processes.
- In recent years, it has been widely used as refrigerants to replace banned chlorofluorocarbons.
- Commonly used in gas insulating media, solvents, sprays, foaming agents, large-scale circuit etchants, and heat pump working fluids.
- Raw materials for the production of C2F4 and C3F6 monomers.
- High-purity octafluorocyclobutane (above 5N) is used as etchant and cleaning agent for VLSI.
- Octafluorocyclobutane has been widely used in technical fields such as high-voltage insulation, cleaning etching, and plasma processing in recent years due to its stable properties, non-toxicity, zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), and good insulation properties.
- Mainly used to prepare mixed refrigerants to replace CFC-12, and can be used as stable and non-toxic pharmaceutical aerosol sprays. This product can be used as one of the components of the mixed refrigerant to replace CFC-12. It is a long-term substitute that is completely non-destructive to the ozone layer. It can also be used as an aerosol.
STORAGE CONDITIONS
1. The warehouse is ventilated and dried at low temperature; stored separately from flammable materials
2. Octafluorocyclobutane is a high-pressure gas and requires attention to its pressure control when storing and using it.
3. Concussion should be avoided during transportation of cylinders. Cylinders should be stacked in a ventilated, dry and safe place, away from heat sources.
4. During operation, avoid inhaling the gas and avoid contact with skin and eyes to avoid irritation and damage.
5. When octafluorocyclobutane leaks, avoid fire sources and high temperature areas, ventilate in time and take appropriate safety measures for handling.
6. When the concentration of this product reaches a level that reduces the oxygen content in the air to less than 19.5%, it will cause suffocation.
7. Contact with this product may cause frostbite.
PACKAGE
1. It is filled with tons of steel cylinders and can also be configured according to customer requirements.
2. The filling value of octafluorocyclobutane cylinder is 1.296kg/L.
3. After the cylinder valve is closed tightly, tighten the bulkhead and cylinder cap to prevent leakage.
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Octafluorocyclobutane is very stable and does not react with other substances under normal conditions. Storage and reaction vessels can be made of cast iron and stainless steel at 120°C, and steel at 175°C. When the temperature exceeds 400°C, Inconel alloy Materials such as nickel and platinum will also suffer minor damage. At 500°C, these materials catalyze the decomposition. At high temperatures (600°C), octafluorocyclobutane can decompose to generate carbon, carbon tetrafluoride and toxic compounds.
